Niam

Niam was completely thrown by Naomi’s reaction to his involvement with Dawn and now that they were all stuck under the same building it made things even worse. Naomi didn’t say a word to him for the rest of the day and Dawn made sure to keep her distance.

It was closing time. Everyone had left, but Chloe and Caleb. They were standing near the doorway talking.

Niam stepped out of his office and made his way where they stood. Chloe waved goodbye and Niam locked the bank along with security.

“So, what’s up? You want to tell me what’s been going on with you?” Caleb asked.

“Nothing. I’m good.”

“Don’t play me like that man. I’m your boy. What’s been up? You’ve been treating me like shit and I want to know why.”

“I don’t have to explain myself to you,” he said.

“Oh. So that’s how it is now?”

Niam let out a heavy sigh before pulling his car door open and turning to face Caleb. “My bad man. I’ve just got a lot going on. Between my brother dying, my family acting crazy and—“

“Being pissed about some old shit between me and Naomi?” he added.

“She told you, huh?”

“Yeah, but you should have. What’s up with that?”

“I don't know man. I feel kind of stupid about it.”

“And you should. What happened between Naomi and me was a long ass time ago. You shouldn’t even be fazed by it since she’s not your girl. Let you two tell it, you guys are just friends.”

“We are.”

“Then why are you all in your feelings?”

“Because I’m walking around looking like a fool because you two slept together and I didn't know shit.”

“That makes no sense Niam. You’re still not dealing with the obvious.”

“And what’s that?”

“That you’re in love with her and you need to tell her.”

“I can’t,” he answered.

“Why not?”

“Because we both know that Naomi has her ways and being in a relationship isn’t apart of that.”

“Come on…we’re not talking about her getting involved with some random fool on the street. We’re talking about you. That girl loves you just as much as you love her.”

“That may be true, but not once has she mentioned being with me like that.”

“Have you?”

He paused. “Well no, but—“

“But my ass. Y’all need to talk and it needs to be sooner rather than later. Especially after what I saw today.”

“What you saw today?”

“Yeah. While you were in your office having it out with that Dawn chick, who you’re obviously screwing—”

“It isn't what you think.”

“Whatever it was, Naomi’s ass wasn’t happy about it.”

“I’m well aware of that.”

“Oh. So she told you?”

“Not in those exact words, but her reaction to finding out wasn’t a good one.”

“I bet. What do you plan on doing about it?”

“I don’t know. She’s not talking to me.”

“You’re staying at her place, right?”

“Yeah.”

“Okay then. Make her talk to you.”

“How?”

“Really man. Do I have to explain that shit to you too?”
